Halfway House (RRC) Advocacy

Fight for the maximum halfway house time your loved one qualifies for.

Under the Second Chance Act, people in federal custody can be placed in a Residential Reentry Center (RRC) — a halfway house — for up to 12 months, and in some cases home confinement on top of that. In practice, many are given far less. We help families identify the earned time credits, referrals, and paperwork that make the case for a longer, closer, and better-planned placement.

  • Up to 12 months RRC placement + eligible home confinement time
  • First Step Act earned time credit (FTC) reviews
  • Administrative remedy support when time is denied or shortened

Turning Point Advocacy is not a law firm and does not guarantee any specific placement decision by the Bureau of Prisons.

Sentence computation & FTC audit

We review BOP records to confirm First Step Act earned time credits are being applied so RRC eligibility isn't cut short.

Case-management advocacy

We help draft the RRC referral packet and push for the earliest possible referral date at the 17–19 month mark.

Placement location strategy

We advocate for placement close to family, employment, and treatment resources — the anchors reentry actually depends on.

Denials, cuts & appeals

If RRC time is denied or shortened, we prepare the BP-8 through BP-11 administrative remedies and escalate where appropriate.

Home confinement pathway

We line up the transition from halfway house to home confinement so eligible time on the back end isn't lost.

Reentry plan the BOP takes seriously

A concrete housing, employment, and support plan strengthens the case for the maximum RRC placement your loved one qualifies for.

RRC Advocacy FAQ

Common questions about halfway house time.

Under the Second Chance Act, eligible individuals can receive up to 12 months in a Residential Reentry Center (RRC), and in some cases additional home confinement on top of that. In practice, the Bureau of Prisons often assigns far less. We help build the record that supports the maximum placement your loved one qualifies for.
